Homemade Odor Eliminator Spray

If you like your home to smell clean, but you do not like the heavy perfumes in air freshening sprays, you can create your own homemade odor elimination spray to do the job. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Cleaning

    • If you need to clean a surface that has a bad odor, combine 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water in a spray bottle. Spray the smelly area and wipe clean. The mess and the odor will be eliminated, according to "Kitchen Hints from Heloise" (2005).

    Air Freshening

    • If you need to freshen the scent of the air or a carpet, create an odor eliminator spray by combining distilled water and a couple drops of your favorite essential oil in a spray bottle. Shake the mixture, and spray it into the air or onto the carpet to get rid of the bad odor, according to "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Green Cleaning," by Mary Findley and Linda Formichelli (2009).

    Considerations

    • Before spraying anything in your home, test the mixture on an inconspicuous portion of the item to make sure the solution will not bleach or stain it. For odor elimination of your entire home, simmer on the stove a solution of 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar, in addition to using the spray.
