Good corporate citizenship is an extension of good morals.

Plenty of corporations and their employees seek to balance their commitments to shareholders with a commitment to supporting and improving their community. There are several ways to become a better corporate citizen.

Corporate Volunteering

One large German bank, strives to improve its image as a corporate citizen by promoting corporate volunteering. The bank provides employees with opportunities to volunteer in the local community, either by using their professional skills and knowledge or as additional hands at shelters, schools or clinics.

Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is a crucial consideration for any corporation. Some corporations emit more waste than others, but any large company will add pollution to the atmosphere. Therefore, one very important facet of corporate citizenship is a concern for environmental sustainability. A recent study conducted by two professors at Deakin University in Australia shows that many of Australia's top CEOs consider sustainability a key component of their corporate citizenship efforts.

Partnerships

Corporations can also improve their image as corporate citizens by starting partnerships with charitable organizations. Many philanthropic organizations are always looking for corporations and their employees to either collectively or individually support development projects throughout the world.
