Ice tea is a popular refreshing drink, especially in the summer or in hot climates. Adding pureed fruit to the basic ice tea recipe of brewed hot tea is one option for changing its flavor. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Ice Tea

    • The base of most homemade ice teas is concentrated freshly brewed hot tea. The choice of tea used -- black, green or flavored -- affects the final taste. Adding cold water or ice to the brewed tea, and perhaps something to sweeten it, turns the tea into "ice tea."

    Fruit Puree

    • Most fruits are suitable to puree for ice tea. A blender will easily puree both soft fruits, such as berries, and hard fruits, such as pears and apricots. Store-bought frozen fruits and fruits sauces also make good purees.

    Tips

    • There are many possible combinations of flavors of ice tea and the fruit puree.

      Straining the puree before adding it to the ice tea will remove seeds and pips.

      Straining the liquid after adding the puree to the ice tea will extract all the juice from the puree without adding the fiber from the fruit.
