Army Assessment of Individual Motivation Test

The U.S. Army developed the Assessment of Individual Motivation (AIM) test to help determine how successful applicants without a high school diploma might be in the army. An appropriate grade will allow you to apply even if you don't meet some of the other requirements.

  1. Purpose

    • The purpose of the Assessment of Individual Motivation test is to determine the likelihood of your success in the Army even if you don't have a high school degree. It was not designed to trick you or to screen people out. In fact, the Army refers to it as a "market-expansion" tool to make more people eligible than otherwise would be.

    The AIM Test

    • The test consists of 27 multiple-choice questions in six different areas of performance. The six areas tested are dependability, adjustment, work orientation, agreeableness, leadership and physical conditioning.

What The AIM Is Looking For

    • The AIM test is looking for those who strive for excellence by setting high standards for themselves. They also need to have a positive outlook on life, be able to get along well with others, stay out of trouble, be confident in their abilities, and enjoy physical activity.
