Known also as Bocadillo con Queso and Romeo e Julieta, guava paste with white cheese is a popular dish in Latin America. This simple snack combines the sweetness of fresh guava with the salty tartness of a soft white cheese. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Guava Paste

    • Known as goiabada in Latin America, guava paste is made from cooked fresh guavas, sugar, pectin and water. This thick paste can be purchased in blocks and sliced for serving. It can be found in Latin and gourmet food markets.

    White Cheese

    • The most popular cheese served with Bocadillo con Queso is queso fresco, a creamy, soft and mild white cheese originally from Spain. Mozzarella cheese, feta or cream cheese can be substituted.

    Romeo e Julieta

    • Slice both the guava paste and white cheese in equal amounts. Serve it as an appetizer or as a dessert on a small plate.
