Mettler Thread Vs. Superior Thread

Mettler Thread Vs. Superior Thread thumbnail
Mettler and Superior are two common brands of thread.

Mettler and Superior are two different brands of thread. Superior Thread and Mettler Thread both make sewing, quilting and embroidery thread and offer their products in a wide range of fabrics.

  1. Mettler

    • Mettler Thread makes their products primarily out of Egyptian cotton or long fiber polyester, but they also have a silk finished line. The cotton based threads are less likely to shrink during washing; the spools are twist balanced to lessen knotting and tangles when sewing.

    Superior

    • Superior Thread offers a wide assortment of different types of threads. Superior offers Egyptian cotton thread, heavy weight polyester, and silk as well as specialty threads such as their sunlight activated color changing thread Sunburst Thread and their glow in the dark thread NiteLite ExtraGlow.

    The Differences

    • Superior offers upwards of 17 different types of thread while Mettler offers about half that number. Superior Thread is also slightly more expensive -- 500 yards of Superior Egyptian cotton thread is approximately $7.50 as of 2010, while the same amount of a comparable Mettler Egyptian cotton thread is approximately $6.50.
