DIY Frozen Margarita

DIY Frozen Margarita thumbnail
Margaritas consist of lime juice and tequila.

A basic margarita consists of lime juice, triple sec -- an orange liqueur -- and tequila. Blending the traditional margarita mixture with ice makes frozen margaritas. Some recipes call for different fruits and substitute other types of alcohol. Margaritas can be served in glasses rimmed with salt. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Preparation

    • A typical margarita recipe calls for about two ounces of tequila, half an ounce of triple sec and two ounces of lime juice. To make a frozen margarita, place mixture in a blender with two cups of ice cubes or one cup of crushed ice. Serve frozen margarita in a glass dampened with lime juice, or water, and rimmed with salt.

    Substitutions

    • Grand Marnier, a cognac-based orange liqueur, can be used instead of triple sec. Frozen lime juice or store-bought margarita mix can be used instead of whole limes.

    Suggestions

    • According to Texas Cooking, common frozen margarita variations include strawberry, apricot and watermelon. Frozen margaritas also can be made without alcohol.
