Cheating and lying in relationships can lead to serious trust issues.

When couples cheat and lie in their relationships, everybody gets hurt---including the cheater. Relationships should be based on trust, love and mutual respect, none of which are representative of cheating. Cheating and lying in relationships can often be cause for breakup or divorce.

  1. Hurt

    • Feelings of hurt and betrayal are normal when cheating and lying enter a relationship. To cheat is to break the commitment in a monogamous relationship, which causes hurt and disappointment for the other person. They often begin to question if all aspects of the relationship were honest and sincere.

    Anger

    • Many people can become very angry when they find out they have been cheated on. It is not uncommon for people to scream, yell or cut all communications with someone who cheated and lied. In some instances, people may even react violently.

    Loss of Trust

    • Trying to repair a relationship after cheating and lying is a long, difficult road. Once a person has been lied to and cheated on, it may be difficult for them to trust their partner ever again. They may also become over-suspicious and paranoid about their partner's actions or whereabouts.
