The History of 1951 Chevrolet Business Coupe

The Businessman's Coupe was a stripped down car with only the barest of essentials.

Most car companies of the 1950s had a businessman's coupe, which was a car with a place to store equipment or items where the back seat would normally be. Chevrolet was no exception and 17,000 were sold in 1951.

Features

Instead of a back seat, these cars had a place for a salesman's sample case or merchandise. The 1951 Chevy had a larger trunk than other models in addition to the rear compartment behind the driver's seat. The 1951 model sported a new grille and wider lights, but otherwise did not differ in style from the previous year.

Types

There were two basic styles of Chevrolet in the early 1950s, which were the Styleline and the Fleetline. Both had Businessman Coupe packages. The car had the same engine, a 216-cubic inch, six-cylinder engine that offered good economy. At $1,240, the Businessman's Coupe was the cheapest Chevrolet on the market.

Dimensions

The Businessman's Coupe was a two-door car that weighed 3,040 pounds. It had a three-speed manual transmission with rear-wheel drive. The coupe had a 16-gallon gas tank and ran on 15-inch tires. A power-glide transmission was available as an option.
