What Can I Do If My Friend Refuses to Return My Car?
Lending a car to a friend can lead to a difficult situation if she does return the car to you. There are a series of options you must take in an attempt to get it returned.

The first step to take to have your car returned is to ask her why she has not returned your car. Since she is your friend, you should avoid immediately resorting to legal action.
Intervention

If your friend does not return the car despite your request, ask a mutual friend to approach him to ask why he will not return the car. The peer pressure and loss of standing among other friends may cause him to return the car.

A phone call or a letter from an attorney will indicate the gravity of the situation and may prompt your friend to return your car.
Police

As a last resort, contact the police to have them arrest your friend. Your friend has committed larceny at this point -- she has failed to return the car beyond the scope of your agreement and her repeated refusal to return the car can be used to show her intent to keep it. The police should return the car to you, however if this does not happen, you can sue your friend under a civil cause of action to have the car returned.
