Which Minion Is Best for an Affliction Skill Tree?

Warlocks are a ranged spell damage class in the online game World of Warcraft. A minion assists the warlock in dealing damage or crowd control, and warlocks have multiple choices when selecting minions. Each minion has situational bonuses valuable in various environments.

  1. Player vs. Environment

    • Patch 4.0.1 drastically changed the warlock's talent trees. The affliction tree, which focuses on dealing damage over time, is best complemented with the succubus' melee attack, Lash of Pain. Combine this with the Lash of Pain glyph, which boosts the attack damage 25 percent, for the highest damage per second during raids and dungeons.

    Player vs. Player

    • The succubus can incapacitate enemy players for up to 30 seconds through its charm ability, but any damage negates the effect. In contrast, the felhunter removes helpful spells from enemy players and also silences enemy spell-casting players from casting for three seconds through the Spell Lock ability. If the warlock uses Spell Lock while the enemy player is actively casting, the ability silences the enemy player for six seconds. Silencing a healer may be the difference between winning or losing a PvP match. Using the Soulburn ability also allows the warlock to summon the felhunter immediately if the pet dies during the battle. Use either pet based on your preferred play style.

    Supplemental Minions

    • Don't forget to use the newly implemented ability to have a minion and an additional demon out at the same time. The infernal and the doomguard share a 10-minute cool-down, but are active for 45 seconds.
