China Eastern Airlines is based in Shanghai at the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. The airline was first established in 1988. Today, the airline flies to a number of destinations throughout Asia, as well as in North America, Europe and Oceania. In 2009, it was announced that the airline would merge with Shanghai Airlines. In 2010, the airline announced that it intended to join the SkyTeam airline alliance.

  1. Incidents

    • As of 2010, China Eastern Airlines' last crash occurred in 2004, when a small passenger jet went down in Inner Mongolia shortly after take-off. All 53 people on the plane were killed.

    Numbers

    • The airline has only had four fatal crashes in its history. This positions it at --94 percent of the average accident rate for airlines.

    Ratings

    • China Eastern Airlines boasts a three-star rating from Skytrax. In addition, it is listed as a Skytrax quality-approved airline.
