VCO phones help those who are hard of hearing.

Voice carry over, or VCO, phones, are designed to help those who are hard-of-hearing or deaf. There are also dual-line VCO phones, which allow both reading and hearing the other person's response.

  1. Text Readout

    • VCO phones provide users with a text readout. This means that when the person on the other end of the phone line speaks, the hearing impaired user can read the response on a screen. The screen that displays the response in text has its own light so that it's easy to read.

    Relay Calls

    • In order to use VCO phones, relay calls must be made. This means that a relay service acts as the middleman between the hearing impaired caller and the caller on the other end of the line. The relay service transcribes the conversation into text.

    Features

    • VCO phones come equipped with specially designed features for the hard-of-hearing, such as a volume boost control and a flashing light that acts as the phone's "ringer." VCO phones also come with memory dialing, which makes making phone calls easier.
