The CWB can qualify welders in Canada.

The Canadian Welding Bureau was formed in 1947 to administer welding standards for steel structures. It is an accredited body by the Standards Council of Canada and administers CSA (Canadian Standards Association) standards.

  1. Welding Inspector Certification

    • The Canadian Welding Bureau certifies welding inspectors. To qualify, prospective inspectors must have at least one year of welding or inspection experience or must have taken a course to study the practices and principles of welding. The CWB offers courses for inspectors, or those who wish to become inspectors.

    Welding Supervisor Certification

    • Companies seeking certification from the CWB must maintain an appropriate number of supervisors with welding experience. Welding supervisors must be qualified under the Canadian Standards Association W47.1, W47.2 and W186 standards.

    Companies Seeking Certification

    • Companies that wish to become CWB-certified must apply through the company's website (see Resources section for a link). After applying, the company will receive a "Certification Binder," which contains all necessary forms and materials to begin the certification process. Companies must qualify an employee or employees as welding supervisors, and may be asked to qualify welding engineers. All welders, operators and tack welders will be tested as part of the certification process.
