The popularity of home makeover shows continues to grow.

Most home makeover shows air on the cable network, HGTV. However, the most popular show, "Extreme Makeover Home Edition," is featured on the ABC network. Homeowners must submit applications to be considered for the shows, and a video is requested with some applications. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Extreme Makeover

    • While many shows help homeowners redesign or redecorate a room, ABC's "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" reconstructs entire homes. The lengthy application for the show requires homeowners or those who nominate them to answer questions involving reasons for needing a home makeover, community, commitment of volunteer work and how homeowners will give back to the community. Videos are requested as part of the application. Thousands of applications are submitted for consideration weekly.

    Curb Appeal

    • The HGTV show, "Curb Appeal: The Block" provides homeowners with a $20,000 makeover of their front yards and front exterior of their homes. Whether it's because of peeling paint or an unruly landscape, homeowners who apply to be on the show should consider their homes an "eyesore." To be considered for the show, homeowners submit an e-mail with photos of the home to the producers.

    Color Splash

    • Popular HGTV designer and the first winner of the network's "Design Star" show, David Bromstad, hosts "Color Splash: Miami." Room makeovers focus on Bromstad's love of color to bring new life to bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, dinning rooms and outdoor spaces. Those interested in being considered for the show should send an e-mail including photos of the room they would like to makeover and a photo of what they hope the room will look like afterward.

    Home Rules

    • HGTV's "Home Rules" is hosted by life coach Fran Harris. She helps families eliminate clutter and creates calm in their living spaces. Families must live within 50 miles of New York City and must complete an application explaining why they need Fran's help.
