The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) maintains a number of programs that can train youth and adult workers for jobs in a variety of industries. Employment and training programs combine classroom learning with apprenticeship or on-the-job training.

The DOL's Employment and Training Administration (ETA) website maintains a listing of career resources, which includes employment training programs. Youth programs help adolescents explore various industries and careers, while adult workers can benefit from programs geared toward seniors, dislocated workers or workers with disabilities.

Among the features of the DOL's adult employment and training programs are job search assistance and employment counseling. The DOL's adult programs are available to individuals 18 years of age or older. Youth as young as 14-years-old may be eligible for job training and career counseling services through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

Participation in a DOL employment and training program can help workers at various of their careers identify job opportunities and complete the training required to be successful in a selected career or industry. The ETA notes in its mission statement that providing these services directly contributes "to the more efficient functioning of the U.S. labor market."
