What Is Over State in Photoshop?

"Over" state is the change in appearance of a web page button when you move your mouse pointer over it or click on it. Rollover state is an umbrella term for the changing appearance effect. "Over" refers to one type of rollover state.

  1. Effect

    • Rollover buttons (those with rollover state in place) usually change their text color or size when you place the mouse pointer over them. Sometimes they can also change their background graphics.

    Design

    • Rollover buttons usually consist of two images. The default image displays when there is no mouse pointer over it. Once you move your cursor over the button the second image swaps out the first and the "over" state image displays.

    Advanced Design

    • You can also create a rollover button with three images. In this case the "over" state image still refers to the one that appears when you move your mouse pointer over the button. The only difference is that you add an extra image that appears when you actually click on the button.

    Function

    • "Over" state gives web page buttons a more dynamic effect. This helps to draw viewers' attention to particular terms and sections on a web page that are important.
