What Is Opi Printing?
OPI is an abbreviation for open prepress interface. An OPI printing system uses a server on a network to store images. This method of printing reduces the amount of memory it takes to lay out documents with high-resolution images.

OPI Printing Functions
-
When using an OPI system, a low-resolution and a high-resolution version of each image are stored in separate folders on a server. During the creation of a document, the low-resolution images are used as place holders. The OPI system automatically prints the high-resolution images from the server in place of the lower-quality versions.
Benefits
-
Using low-resolution images for pre-press design and proofing shrinks the memory required to edit the document. High-resolution images can be edited for printing at the same time the document layout is being finalized, which reduces preparation time.
-
Image Considerations
-
High-resolution images must be edited apart from the document layout. Low-resolution images used in the design will not be printed and should not be edited during printing preparation. The names of the two image files must be identical for the system to work properly.
