There are no restrictions or blackout dates on American Airlines AAirpass tickets. You can use the AAirpass when you want, wherever you want. Anyone who is an AAdvantage member and who plans to spend at least $10,000 a year on airfare can get an AAirpass.

Identification

Although an AAirpass is basically a prepaid airline ticket, it is not the same as an advanced reservation. With an advanced reservation, you make a reservation for a specific date and time. With AAirpass, you keep your credit until you decide to use it. It can even be used for last-minute flights.

Significance

According to the American Airlines website, based on fare prices in February 2010, an AAirpass user could fly from the La Guardia airport in New York to Ontario, Canada for $276, even though a full fare ticket would have cost $1,263. This is nearly an 80 percent savings.
