Obituary Guidelines
Writing an obituary can be a difficult task for some and a therapeutic one for others. Every publication has its own specific guidelines and templates, but there is basic information you should include in an obituary.
-
Introduce the Loved One
-
Write your loved one's full name, including maiden name and any common nicknames. State his age and the date of death, as well. If the family chooses, the cause of death may also be included.
Name Accomplishments and Special Interests
-
State where your loved one was born and the different places she lived throughout her life. Include any notable special interests she was known for. Your loved one has probably accomplished different things in different areas, so be sure to list any major accomplishments and where they took place, such as degrees, awards or any professional recognitions.
-
Name Family
-
It is important to include a list of survivors of the deceased. You can include spouses, children, other relatives or special friends.
Include Service Information
-
Finish the obituary with the name and address where the funeral service and burial will take place. Include information about a reception after the service only if everyone is welcome to attend. Also, state where any memorial donations should be sent.
