Free Office Safety Information
Information is your best tool for ensuring your office is safe and complies with United States occupational health and safety regulations. You can find a wealth of reliable and authoritative office safety information online.
-
Federal & State Agencies
-
Perhaps the foremost authority on office safety, and workplace safety in general, is the U. S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). In partnership with OSHA, the U.S. Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy and the National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) both address office and workplace safety issues and the prevention of work-related injury and illness. All these agencies offer free publications and newsletters online.
More than 20 states also offer their own occupational safety and health programs. Several state programs offer free office safety information. Check the OSHA website or your state's Department of Labor for more information.
Office Equipment Manufacturers and Dealers
-
Some office equipment manufacturers and dealers provide free office safety information as a customer service. For example, Office Depot has an online "Small Business Handbook" that includes information on workers' compensation, government workplace safety regulations, safety programs, and other workplace safety issues.
-
Small Business Organizations and Nonprofits
-
Organizations for small or independent business owners and nonprofit groups also provide free office safety information. For instance, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has several business resources available on its website, some of which address office safety. The Electrical Safety Foundation International (EFSI) offers an office safety checklist that helps identify and correct potential electrical hazards in your office.
