Stuffing for Meat Pie

Stuffing for Meat Pie thumbnail
Meat pie stuffing varies by cultural cuisine.

A meat pie is a hearty dish for any occasion. A crust or dough is filled with meats and an assortment of vegetables and seasonings that reflect cultures and traditions. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. British Pies

    • Many versions of meat pie found in Great Britain use ground beef. Cooks mix the beef with spices and ingredients such as onions, peppers, parsley and eggs. The onions are cooked in oil and the ground beef is added. Other ingredients are mixed in, along with a stock for additional flavoring and baked in pastry dough, often in individual portions.

    Empanadas

    • Empanadas are meat pies from Latin American and Iberian cultures. The meat stuffing is a mixture of chicken and ground beef with spices. Jalapenos, cilantro, olives, tomato paste and black beans are mixed into the meats and sauteed in oil. Once the stuffing is ready, it is placed on an empanada wrap, folded over and the edges are pressed down with a fork to keep the pie closed.

    Tourtière

    • French Canadian meat pies are called tourtières. The stuffing is a mix of pork, beef and sometimes turkey. Potatoes may be mashed or cut up into slices and added to the meat mixture. The stuffing is then added to a pie crust and baked.
