Protocol for Carrying a Gun While Visiting a Military Base

According to the Handgun Law U.S. website, loaded firearms of any kind are not allowed to be carried or transported onto military bases in accordance with restrictions introduced under federal law.

  1. Transportation

    • The Quantico Shooting Club reports when visiting a U.S. military base firearms can be transported onto federal property if they are not loaded. The firearm must be carried in a case and not be readily available to the owner, ammunition should be carried in a separated case as far from the firearm as possible.

    License

    • Although the owner of a firearm is in possession of a concealed weapons license, a firearm is not allowed to be carried on a military base. Quantico Shooting Club reports concealed weapons licenses are not valid on a military installation.

    Law Enforcement

    • Members of law enforcement agencies are not permitted to carry firearms onto a military base, unless they are taking part in a federal mission. When entering a military base a law enforcement officer carrying a weapon must identify themselves before entering the base.
