The Best Solution for Cleaning a Stained Carpet

Stains ruin the appearance of your carpet and detract from the overall appearance of the room. The best solution to clean a stained carpet is with a combination of warm water and a mild detergent. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. New Stains

    • For wet stains, gently blot paper towels or a white cloth against the stain until the towel stops absorbing color. Combine 1/4 tsp. mild detergent with one cup warm water, and apply directly to the stain. After five minutes, add enough water to rinse the soap from the carpet, and blot dry with a new towel.

    Old Stains

    • For older stains, apply the detergent and water mixture directly to the stain. After rinsing, press a towel on top of the stain and cover with heavy book. The towel should absorb the color and the moisture left behind.

    Warning

    • Use only a small amount of detergent mixed with water. If you use too much detergent, you'll find it difficult to rinse the soap away, and it may leave behind a soapy residue.
