Peppermint Oil for Mouse Control

Peppermint Oil for Mouse Control thumbnail
Peppermint oil is one way to control mice in your home.

Mice chew through electrical wires, knock over pet food dishes, eat through boxes in your pantry and generally become a nuisance. While traps are one way to get rid of the pests, you can also use peppermint oil to control the mouse population. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Usage

    • Dip cotton balls in peppermint oil or pour the oil directly onto the cotton balls, according to CritterControllers.com. Place the balls in your pantry, kitchen cabinets, drawers and anywhere else you notice mouse droppings or any other signs of mice. The smell of the peppermint oil naturally repels the mice.

    Considerations

    • Peppermint oils, such as those intended for cooking, won't work. You need pure peppermint oil, such as the essential oils used for candle making, crafting and other hobby activities.

    Warning

    • Keep the soaked cotton balls away from pets and children. The oil is potentially toxic to humans and animals, but especially to small children with less developed immune systems.
