Salt & Vinegar for Killing Grass

Salt & Vinegar for Killing Grass thumbnail
Both vinegar and salt are effective grass killers.

The acidity in distilled white vinegar removes problem areas in your lawn, including unwanted grass. Rock salt helps kill grass as well, and keeps new grass from growing back later. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Kill Weeds

    • Combine table salt or rock salt with distilled white vinegar and store the solution in a spray bottle. Spray directly at the unwanted grass until the area is saturated. It may take several applications before the grass is completely dead.

    Considerations

    • White vinegar is strong enough to kill the grass without the use of salt. Spray the vinegar on the grass until it turns brown and starts dying. Cover the area with salt to keep the grass from growing back.

    Warning

    • The combination of vinegar and salt will also kill any plants in the surrounding area. If the area also features plants that you want to keep, cover them first and use caution when spraying. Even a small amount of vinegar that the plant absorbs may kill it.
