    • Although coconut palms now grow in all tropical regions, they are believed to have originated in Malaysia. Trees grow to 100 feet tall and live for 80 to 90 years, according to Union County College in New Jersey. Trees produce clusters of coconuts almost continuously after they mature at about 10 years of age.

The Walter Andersen Nurseries reports that coconut palms can be grown indoors in San Diego, California but cannot survive the winter outdoors. The University of Florida website states that coconut palms cannot survive temperatures lower than 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
