What Is the File Extension .Rna?
A file with an .rna extension is most likely a virus. The RNA virus is not very common and generally low-risk, but that doesn't mean you should leave it on your computer. It's possible that it may do nothing but replicate itself, but it's not worth the risk and the virus is not very difficult to remove.

What is a .rna Virus?
-
An RNA virus is a self-replicating piece of spyware that infects .exe and .com files. Infected RNA files replicate when the infected file is executed, and they can spread rapidly through a file directory. Computers infected with the RNA virus may experience slowdown when the infected files are executed, as well as the creation of zero-byte files.
How Did I Get It?
-
The RNA virus can only infect your computer if you have run an infected file. Look for new files that you have opened recently -- especially those that were downloaded off of a file sharing website -- to locate the propagating file.
-
How Do I Get Rid of It?
-
RNA files are generally easy to remove using the scan features of most anti-virus software.
Experienced computer users can also attempt to remove it manually. Infected files will have a file length increase of 7,296 bytes and the virus can be located at the beginning of the infected file. Look for the following text strings in the file:
"COMMAND.COM"
"Runtime error at"
"uc253.rqz"
Users who are inexperienced with virus removal should consult a professional.
