What Do I Need to Connect a Computer to a TV?
Many people enjoy watching television and movies online. You can connect your computer to a television to make your viewing experience more enjoyable. The process requires the appropriate cables and device inputs and outputs.
-
HDMI
-
HDMI ports on a computer will help you connect to a HDTV television. If you have an HDTV television and a computer with a HDMI output, use an HDMI cable for a high-quality audio and video connection. Not all televisions can support the same resolution as computer monitors, so check your television's guidebook.
S-Video and DVI
-
You can connect a computer from the PC's video card to the TV's inputs. Connect your PC to your TV using an S-Video cable if your computer and TV include this port. DVI, the most common video output on PCs, is another way to connect your PC to your TV. An inexpensive DVI-to-HDMI adapter may be needed. A video card with multiple DVI outputs is required unless you intend to use your TV as the only monitor. An audio cable is also for needed S-Video and DVI connections.
-
VGA
-
Connect your computer via the VGA port. If your computer has a VGA port, you can use a VGA cable to connect your PC to your TV. You will most likely need a VGA-to-component adapter, as well as a component cable. VGA doesn't support audio signals so an audio cable is also needed.
