Property Preservation Certification

Property preservation contractors can pursue certification through organizations such as the Society of Independent Representatives. Certification is not mandatory in the industry, but SIR notes that many companies prefer to hire certified contractors for property preservation jobs.

Features

The property preservation certification exam offered by SIR is Web-based and consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. The exam must be taken within 24 hours of registration. Test takers who receive a score of 70 percent or better are qualified to use the Certified Property Preservation Specialist designation.

Requirements

There are no mandatory prerequisites for taking a property preservation certification exam. However, SIR recommends that contractors with less than 10 years experience take a training class, which covers topics including winterizing a home and the tools used on the job.

Certification gives property preservation contractors a way to distinguish themselves from service providers who lack certification, training or formal experience in the field.
