Store Bought Cakes Vs. Homemade
There are many differences between homemade and store-bought cakes. It is often tempting to go to the store to avoid the effort required to bake a cake, but for some, there is nothing better than making a cake from scratch. Does this Spark an idea?

Making or Buying
-
Buying a cake takes less time than making one, but baking a cake can be rewarding, and this is entirely lost if you buy from a store. Kids love baking, and baking together is a way to have some bonding time. If you buy somebody a cake from a store it's thoughtful but impersonal--but baking it for them has that personal touch. You've put the time in, decorated it with little flourishes and made the cake the best you can, and it is something you can be proud of.
Ingredients
-
Homemade cakes allow you to control the choice of ingredients. If you or a family member have an allergy, it may be difficult to find a store-bought cake that doesn't include that ingredient. And home baking allows you to adjust flavors to your taste in a way that is impossible with store-bought cakes.

Quality
-
Store-bought cakes are reliable, in that you know they will all be exactly the same. With homemade cakes, there is an inherent risk of something going wrong--you could easily put too much of any one ingredient in and ruin the balance of flavor. However, as you get better at baking and test out recipes yourself, homemade cakes have the potential to taste a lot better.
