Can HD Signals Be Provided Through Coaxial Cables?

Coaxial cables are a type of copper cable used by telecommunications and cable companies between a community antenna and a service subscriber's home.

HD Signals

HD, or high-definition broadcast signals, cannot be provided through coaxial cables. HD signals are transmitted through a single HDMI cable.

Coaxial Defined

Coaxial cable is defined by its structure. A cable is considered "coaxial" because it includes a single channel that carries the signal and is surrounded by a layer of insulation.

Coaxial Use

Most coaxial cable networks are used to transfer telephone, ethernet and cable broadcast signals. However, many service providers are now using twisted pair copper wire and optical fiber as alternatives to coaxial cable.
