Gramoxone
-
Gramoxone is a popular herbicide, or weedkiller, used in the United States. According to Syngenta, a crop protection product company, the active ingredient in Gramoxone is paraquat, which becomes inactive when it hits the soil. The herbicide is used to treat fruits, vegetable and rubber among other crops.
Identification
-
The MSDS for Gramoxone identifies product, ingredient and hazard information for the product as well as its physical and chemical properties. For example, Gramoxone is a dark green liquid with a strong odor and is poisonous. It is capable of producing hydrogen gas when combined with aluminum and, as such, should not be mixed or stored in aluminum containers.

Prevention
-
The MSDS attempts to prevent significant injury to employees working with Gramoxone by providing information on how to administer first aid to an employee who has improperly come into contact with the herbicide. Whether the employee ingests, inhales or has eye/skin contact with the chemical, the MSDS stresses swift action (e.g., flushing eyes) and provides contact information for Syngenta for further assistance.
