Career Development Course Description

College students and adult professionals should be familiar with some of the important topics that are covered in career development courses. In addition to teaching important job search skills, a career development course can also provide career planning assistance.

Topics

A career development course covers important topics such as resume writing, interviewing skills, salary negotiation and networking techniques. Students taking the course may also have the opportunity to learn about the best ways to change careers or gain work experience.

Assignments

Students may be asked to complete several different assignments as part of their career development course. They may need to put together a professional resume and cover letter template and a career plan that includes a time line and a list of activities for reaching their goals. Students may also complete several career tests to determine which jobs they are best suited for.
