HP Computer Memory Upgrade Compatibility
HP makes many desktop and laptop computers, each with different memory specifications. Knowing the specifications of your particular model will enable you to upgrade your computer's Random Access Memory (RAM), affording your HP more speed, power and reliability.

Checking Current Amount
-
Restart your computer and look for a message in the top-right corner telling you to press a specific button to enter setup. Press the appropriate key--often "F1" or "F10" on HP computers--to bring up the BIOS Setup menu. Look at the line labeled "Installed Memory" for the amount your system currently has and the number of memory banks your computer has.
Finding the Type
-
The easiest way to find the specific type of RAM your computer takes is to consult the user's manual. Alternately, HP suggests entering your computer's model number and "specifications" into its website's search bar.

Considerations
-
Find out what type and how much memory you can install before beginning the installation. Doing the entire upgrade at once is easiest and you may save money or computer problems if you know exactly what type and amount of RAM you need before beginning.
