What Are Wave Petunias?

Wave petunias produce a multitude of blossoms.

Wave petunias are popular spreading flowers that reach about 6 inches tall. The 3- to 4-foot long stems are covered with trumpet-shaped blossoms that are smaller than the old-fashioned petunia flowers.

Benefits

Wave petunias are designed to tolerate extreme temperatures during the summer. They also flower well in humid climates. They are considered low-maintenance flowers since they will continue to bloom all summer long without the deadheading of fading blossoms.

Function

Wave petunias are used as borders, ground covers and hanging baskets. This type of petunia is a popular choice for containers. The draping stems of the wave petunias hang over the sides and cover the plant pot.

Types

Wave petunias come in the standard single- or double-flower variety. The double-flower wave petunias are planted as bedding starts and are not propagated by seeds. They are available in purple, rose, white, pink, lilac, lavender and blue colors.
