Why Does My New Canvas Canopy Leak at the Seams?
Nothing is worse than a leaky canvas canopy and the seams are usually the area most at risk for such leaks. Fortunately, there are solutions to the problem. Does this Spark an idea?

Considerations
-
Stitch the seams. Sometimes the problem is that the stitching has just gotten too old and is separating. A simple restitching may solve the issue. If your canopy is manageable, this can be done with a heavy-duty sewing machine or you can use a heavy gauge needle and thread.
Causes
-
Canvas tarps can leak too. Many canvas canopy seams are sealed with a silicone product or, the stitching and seam are wax-coated. These coatings can break down over time due to sunlight and heat or can become cracked. New coatings can be purchased online or at most hardware, camping or boating stores. These products are available in paste or spray on applications.

Warning
-
Canvas tents leak too. Canvas coverings that have not been treated or that have aged are sensitive to touch. If the canvas is wet and you or anything else comes in contact with it, it will leak. Even moisture accumulated due to heavy dew can be an issue. Be sure to treat your canvas canopy before using, but only when it is completely dried.
