An Introduction to Endocrinology
Endocrinology is the study of the endocrine glands found in the human body. These are the glands that produce the hormones that direct the body's systems and tell it how to perform.

Hormone Balance
-
Endocrinologists are doctors who specialize in endocrinology. They work to restore hormone balance to their patients' endocrine systems. Proper hormonal balance is important to all major body systems.
Diabetes
-
Diabetes is one of the diseases caused when the endocrine system is not working properly. Insulin does not remain at a safe level in a diabetic's body. He may either have to take an oral medication to increase insulin levels or inject insulin directly into his body to supplement.

Growth and Development
-
The growth pattern that a person displays from infancy to adulthood is dictated by that person's endocrine system. An underactive or overactive adrenal gland can cause either slow or advanced growth, respectively. Likewise, an underactive or overactive thyroid gland can wreak havoc on a number of the body's systems.
