Can You Wash a Dry Clean Only Comforter? thumbnail
Your bed comforter may not require dry cleaning.

Dry cleaning is a process that uses liquid solvents and dry heat to remove stains and odors, rather than using water on the fabric. Depending on the fabric used in the creation of your comforter, you may be able to skip the dry cleaning and clean the comforter at home. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Considerations

    • Read the care and cleaning label on your comforter. If the comforter is made of nylon, polyester, rayon, silk or wool, then it's possible to clean the comforter at home.

    Cleaning

    • Fill your bathtub with cool water and add one capful of Woolite or a similar detergent used for cleaning delicate fabrics. Press down on the comforter and then turn over, to fully saturate both sides. Gently rinse the comforter with fresh water and place on a flat surface to dry.

    Dry Clean Kit

    • If your dryer is large enough to accommodate your comforter, then use an at-home dry cleaning kit. Rub the liquid solvent on any stains and place in the dryer with the dryer sheets.
