Apartment Maintenance Certification

Apartment maintenance technicians take online and classroom courses to become certified.

The National Apartment Association, or NAA, notes that in a rental community, maintenance expenses are the largest element of the operating budget. The NAA's certification course for apartment maintenance technicians (CAMT) is designed to provide the knowledge needed to run a cost-effective maintenance program.

Requirements

Eligibility for Apartment Maintenance Technician Certification is limited to those candidates who have at least one year of apartment or rental-housing maintenance experience. Candidates must meet all requirements for the certification examination within two years of declaring themselves as candidates for maintenance technician certification, according to the NAA.

Features

Candidates for the CAMT designation complete seven required courses. Two courses that cover the apartment business and business skills can be completed online. The remaining courses combine hands-on learning with online practice scenarios, and cover technical skills in electrical, heating, plumbing, appliance, and interior and exterior maintenance and repair.

Benefits

The NAA offers several benefits to certified apartment-maintenance technicians. Once certified, technicians are listed as certificate holders with the National Apartment Association Education Institute, or NAAEI. They can also receive discounts on industry products, such as safety footwear and tools.
