The curry diet is a diet to help people lose weight. It has gained popularity in the United Kingdom, particularly. The diet has attracted attention with a few celebrities claiming to have lost weight after following a curry diet. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. What

    • The curry diet is based on eating Indian curry foods. However, the food should not be food that the dieter takes home from an Indian restaurant. It should be made specifically using lower-fat alternatives such as yogurt and olive oil, instead of the more traditional clarified butter (ghee) and cream.

    Food

    • The diet consists of typical Indian food such as a vegetable-stuffed paratha and mango chutney, with yogurt, for breakfast. Lunch could be a chicken tikka masala with a boiled potato and water. For dinner, dieters could try a lamb vindaloo with chapathis, salad, and water. The diet also permits nuts and fruits.

    How It Works

    • The spices in the curry help to speed up the dieters' metabolism. This helps them lose excess weight. For instance, a study published in the "Diabetes Care" journal in 2003 reports that cinnamon can boost weight loss, according to the Shine website. And a study by the Mayo Clinic also found that ginger may help to boost metabolism. Dieters could also combine the curry diet with additional exercise for a better effect.
