Do I Need a High Definition Antenna?
There is much confusion surrounding HD antennas. High-definition TV does not require a high-definition antenna. You do need a high-definition TV system with your old antenna.

HD signals are sent using a carrier wave, VHF (very high frequency) or UHF (ultra high frequency). If you have a VHF\UHF antenna, you can receive high-definition signals.
Digital Signals

In 2009, all TV stations started using digital instead of analog signals. Old fuzzy stations you could once get will not come in with digital. The signal needs to be a good strength before the TV will show the channel. High-definition antennas have the same problem.

Reception

A 35-inch wide VHF\UHF antenna will receive all the stations. Installing it as high as you can will improve reception. Signal reception is on average 80 miles. High-definition antennas have the same limitations.
Summary

A good VHF\UHF antenna that is omnidirectional will allow you to receive all the signals from all the stations in your area. If you can't view the HD station, an HD antenna won't help.
