Usually the company matches the amount that the employee invests in the stocks of the company. This enables the employee to accumulate wealth in the company more quickly, especially in the good years. Generally stock options issued to employees are difficult to revoke.

An employee's stock options can be revoked under certain conditions. The stock option agreement would state that the company reserved the right to revoke. Specific circumstances could be when a company needs to terminate an employee.

Employee Revoking Stock Options
-
For an employee to revoke a stock option is much more difficult than for an employer. The beneficiary designation, who is the person to whom the stock will be passed on to in the event of death, can be revoked and changed easily. For the employee to be able to revoke the stock option, the option must not have been exercised. Legally the stock option, once exercised, becomes stock owned by the employee and as such is a capital asset.
