Information on the Cheese Factory in Mountain Home
Mountain Home is the largest city of Elmore County, Idaho. It's home to the Marathon Cheese Factory, one of the largest independent cheese-packaging companies in the world.

History

The company was founded in 1952 by Ray and Marie Goldbach, who started their cheese packaging business in their basement. The company has grown and has operations in four locations: Mountain Home; Booneville, Mississippi; Medford, Wisconsin; and its headquarters in Marathon, Wisconsin.
Factory in Idaho

The latest factory to open is in Mountain Home, Idaho. The company operates out of a 212,000-square-foot factory: 90,000 square feet is taken up with refrigeration for its different cheese types, 100,000 square feet for packaging and 10,000 square feet for office space. It's not just a packaging plant, but also a shipping and receiving center.

Supply Region

Marathon Cheese packages its products and ships to the 48 contiguous states, as well as Puerto Rico, Alaska and Hawaii. Mountain Home Factory supplies primarily the western region of the United States.
Health Standards

Strict practices are implemented at the factory to make sure the cheese meets health standards. Machines are wiped and swabbed for E. coli and mold, with swabs tested on site. Bug lamps are in place all over the factory so insects do not contaminate the cheese.
