Alkaline-rich fruits and vegetables

According to nutritionists, our body needs to have 80 percent alkaline foods and just 20 percent acidic foods. Increasing alkaline food intake is good for the body. Some of the benefits are better immune system and weight loss.

  1. Greens

    • There are plenty of vegetables that are considered alkaline foods. Stick to eating green vegetables, as these are good sources of alkaline. The darker the color, the more alkaline you can get. Some examples of these are spinach, artichokes, cabbage, lettuce, broccoli and green beans.

    Other Vegetables

    • Just because a vegetable is not green does not mean that you can't get alkaline from it. Examples of alkaline-rich vegetables that are not green include carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants. These vegetables are good sources of alkaline provided you do not remove their peel when you eat them.

    Fruits

    • Fruits that have low sugar content have alkalizing properties. These fruits are avocado, watermelon, lime, grapefruit and lemon. Stay away from fruits in cans and cranberries, plums and strawberries, which are high in sugar, if you are concerned about eating fruits with alkaline.
