What Is a Behavior Management Plan?

Some students have recurring behavior issues at school. For these students, it may be necessary to put a behavior management plan in place to help address and correct these behaviors.

  1. Purpose

    • A behavior management plan targets behavior goals as well as consequences for not meeting those goals. This type of plan is generally developed by a teacher or group of educators when a student has had behavioral problems in the past.

    Benefits

    • Misbehavior is generally lessened when a behavior management plan is in place. It also helps parents understand exactly what behaviors are expected from their child and what will happen if the child misbehave.

    Considerations

    • In order for the behavior management plan to work, the consequence has to be meaningful and specific to the behavior. A behavior management plan may need to be modified if the desired outcome isn't achieved after a designated period of time that is chosen by the teacher or group of educators who wrote the plan.
