Security Training for Retail Vendors
Retail vendors have a great need for security officers, who protect their merchandise against vandalism and shoplifting. So it is of great importance that security officers who work in retail outlets are properly trained. Fortunately, there are many ways to receive such training.
-
On-the-Job
-
Retail security officers can learn most of the skills needed by training under the supervision of an experienced security officer or manager while on the job. Some retail outlets also offer training via video and testing.
Certification
-
Security guards in general often need to be certified or licensed through their state's government. The same holds true for security officers who work in the retail industry, especially for those who are armed. Certification often consists of classroom work, testing and a background check that looks for things such as criminal history and driving record.

College
-
Rarely are retail security officers required to possess a bachelor's degree (or even an associate degree), but those who aspire to work in law enforcement and serve as security officers on the side would be well-served to obtain a post-secondary education. Plus, as in most industries, college is an excellent resource for training.
