Lowell Harder founded the company in 1998. She started off selling her own designs from a Camden Market stall in London and over time built up the business. In 2010 Radley had 17 retail outlets and a turnover of £22.7 million (around $36 million), according to the GrowthBusiness website.

Virtually all Radley bags are made using leather. Harder prefers using bright colors in her designs. "Women's handbags were dull and boring," she said in a "Daily Telegraph" interview. "I wanted to introduce a bit of fun."
