Pay by Experience

Those just starting out in the field of dental nursing can expect to earn between $17,092 and $29,914, according to the Payscale.com survey. After five years, earnings could rise to at least $32,590. Professionals on the job for 10 years are earning up to $36,269 a year.

Geography

The area of the United States where dental nurses work plays a role in average salaries. According to the Payscale.com survey, those working in New York City average up to $49,910 a year. By contrast, dental nurses working in Oklahoma City top out at $25,150 a year.

Certification

Different certifications also play a role in the salary potential of a dental nurse. According to the Payscale.com survey, registered dental assistants earn between $23,945 and $36,174 annually. Certified dental assistants earn more, topping out at $40,522 -- a difference of $4,348 a year.
