Think outside the gift box when selecting a gift for grandparents.

By the time people become grandparents, they truly do become the person who seems to "have it all." Grandparents are generally not in need of another knick-knack, tie or toaster.

Give the grandparents a carefully selected, large picture frame, such as an 11 x 14, with a professional (or professional looking) photograph of their grandchild. Each year at Christmas, update the picture, replacing last year's photo with this year's. Alternatively, give a frame with 12-photo openings and fill it throughout the years with school photos.

This is especially nice if it is a group effort, with all the adult children contributing photos of their families and children so the frame is a full-service gift.

    Gift Cards

    • Give the gift of pet grooming.

Gift cards to grocery stores, iTunes and bookstores are always appreciated. But here is an especially good time to think outside the gift box. Think of local restaurants and movie theaters, monthly movie clubs like Netflix, dog groomers and/or trainers (if they have a pet), spa services and other unusual ideas.
